April 28: Making Biodiversity Measurable: Science, Data, and Tools for Agricultural Systems
Join April 28 at 1pm ET/10am PT for a webinar on advancing biodiversity quantification in agricultural systems. Featuring Beckett Sterner from Arizona State University, this session will explore the latest models, datasets, and guardrails needed to ensure credible biodiversity outcomes. We’ll also share how ESMC is translating this science into practical tools, introduce ESMC’s new Biodiversity Estimation for Agriculture Tool (BEAT), and invite feedback from partners and stakeholders.

Past Presentations
2026
March 10: Updated GHGP Guidance Review: ESMC’s EcoHarvest team hosted ‘Updated GHGP Guidance Review’ – a special webinar that provided a detailed walkthrough of new updates to the Land Sector and Removals (LSR) Standard released by the Standard Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol that establishes its first global standard for companies to account for greenhouse gas emissions and CO₂ removals from agricultural land use and emerging CO₂ removal technologies (March 2026).
February 25: Unlocking the Power of Regenerative Agriculture Assets: ESMC’s Patrick Swords presented on how companies can correctly and credibly place agricultural carbon and water assets within their broader climate and water strategies. Whether you’re exploring regenerative agriculture assets for the first time or already piloting programs, the presentation discussed whether these assets count toward Scope 3 reduction goals, how they differ from traditional carbon offsets, how they can be used credibly without risking greenwashing, how they align with net-zero, SBTi, and nature commitments and how they benefit agriculture producers and communities. (February 2026)
Overview on Inventory Accounting: Alana Pacheco and Grant Ivison-Lane (Terranewt) highlighted how inventory accounting doesn’t have to be complicated—especially when it’s done right. This session discussed what inventory accounting is—and why it matters; EcoHarvest’s transition from intervention accounting to inventory accounting (read a February 2026 ESMC report on this transition); and what this shift means for producers, buyers, and other project stakeholders. (February 2026)
From Field to Watershed: Scientific Foundations of Watershed Models and the Evolution of ESMC’s PLET Tool: Dr. Tapasya Babu and Dr. Matthew Helmers (Iowa State University) discussed why watershed-scale science matters to understand effectiveness of BMP outcomes since most nutrient and sediment impacts occur beyond the field. They highlighted how markets, regulators, and supply chains require watershed-relevant signals and that models help bridge field actions to downstream outcomes. (January 2026)
2025
Optimizing Soil Sampling Strategies for Measurement of Soil Organic Carbon in Farmlands: Dr. Tapasya Babu discusses how ESMC and research partners NASA Acres and University of Maryland used satellite imagery and more than 3,000 soil samples from Indiana, Minnesota, and Missouri, to predict soil organic carbon at both point and field scales. This research was presented at the CANVAS meeting (November 2025)
Building Bridges in the Supply Chain: Learn how key sustainable ag stakeholders can bridge supply chain divides by aligning science, market demand, and verification standards to transform fragmented efforts into coordinated, scalable solutions for ag sustainability. Featuring speakers: Jennifer Schmitt (University of Minnesota), Dominic Sutton-Vermeulen (MillPont), Grant Ivison-Lane (Terranewt) (November 18)
Re-Grounding Climate Solutions: Focusing on Soil Carbon Removals in Agriculture; Technical Working Group with Dr. Rattan Lal (September 23)
