ESMRC Chief Scientist

The Chief Scientist will be the senior leader of the Ecosystem Services Market Research Consortium (ESMRC) Research and Development (R&D) department which is ESMC’s innovation program that serves to improve and expand our market program operations. The Chief Scientist guides the
strategic development and growth of ESMRC’s science, innovation and R&D programs, projects, partnerships, and fundraising with the goal of providing the best available information to support scaled beneficial outcomes from agricultural operations, including improved ecosystems service outcomes that are quantified and verified. The position will broker scientific partnerships, provide scientific leadership with and to our Network, and promote and support innovative approaches for the development and management of scientific information, including the advancement of tools that facilitate the use of this information in our ecosystem services market program and pilot projects in support of market program expansion and enhancements. Required Qualifications:

  • University degree and PhD (or equivalent diploma) in a relevant scientific discipline such as agronomy, soil science, animal science or environmental conservation.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a relevant field, including in a legislative or administrative role.
  • Experience in program development and leadership, priority setting, and the management of finances, people, and workloads of large programs with numerous contracts and deliverables.
  • Proven success in fundraising for scientific programs, particularly around agriculture conservation efforts.
  • Experience convening multidisciplinary and/or multi-sector organizations and representatives in support of solving common RDD&D and innovative challenges in the agricultural ecosystem services area (e.g., carbon and greenhouse gas quantification of agricultural activities and systems, water and/or biodiversity impacts of agricultural operations and systems, etc.).

ESMC/ESMRC Research Program Project Manager

The Research Program Project Manager will assist ESMRC’s Chief Scientist in planning and execution of RDD&D projects that meet ESMRC goals and objectives as established by grant awards, ESMC market development priorities, and technical working group input and guidance. The position will draft ESMRC Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Statements of Work (SOW) for RDD&D projects, coordinate solicitation of responses, and lead review of submitted proposals. Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in agronomy, soil science, environmental science or area relevant to agricultural sector operations, ecosystem services, and natural resources management; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years’ work experience related to agronomy, soil science and/or environmental science. Particular experience relevant to environmental, ecological and/or carbon markets is highly desired.
  • Very strong project and time management skills, including demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks to meet deliverables and established timelines.
  • Demonstrated high productivity, efficiency, and self-starter skills and attitude; prior experience in a start-up or entrepreneurial organization or role.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently and in cross functional team settings.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
  • Ability and desire to work in an FTE contractor role.

ESMC/ESMRC Project Manager

ESMC/ESMRC is hiring a Project Manager to add to our quickly growing team. The Project Manager will join our team in a virtual office environment and will serve on a team of additional Project Managers to plan, coordinate, implement and lead pilot projects and market projects while working collaboratively as part of the larger ESMC/ESMRC team and with ESMC/ESMRC members and stakeholders. Policy and Engagement Manager

Position Location: Washington, DC Metro region
The ESMC/ESMRC Policy and Member Engagement Manager will work as part of a professional team in a virtual office environment, serving as ESMC/ESMRC’s lead on public policy issues that are relevant to ESMC/ESMRC’s mission and vision and the success of our agricultural ecosystem services market program. The Policy and Member Engagement Manager will identify public policy opportunities, obstacles, and barriers to a fully optimized ecosystem services market program and work to achieve beneficial outcomes for each.

The Policy and Member Engagement Manager is responsible for creating and implementing a strategic policy plan to track national and federal level policy issues important to the success of ESMC/ESMRC; meaningfully engaging ESMC/ESMRC’s collaborative membership, stakeholders and the ESMC team to get input into and to execute the strategic plan; and for engaging stakeholders and policymakers to educate them about ESMC/ESMRC and inform them of ESMC/ESMRC issues, priorities and outcomes. Requirements

  • At least 5 years professional experience in public policy role including relevant experience in the US Senate, US House of Representatives and/or US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Some knowledge/experience with US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) policies and programs impacting US agriculture is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of USDA agricultural programs and policies, with strong background and experience working with agricultural conservation programs of Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Services Agency (FSA).
  • The role requires good time management, writing and analytical skills; a self-starter with ability to execute necessary actions and to prioritize workload accordingly and to meet program deadlines; strong interpersonal and communication skills for leadership and team building and coordination across ESMC/ESMRC team members, members and stakeholders. Excellent writing and organizational skills are required for document development and development of outreach and educational materials to achieve position goals and objectives.
