Eco-Harvest Invites Proposals to Launch Projects
ESMC is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) to invite proposals for Eco-Harvest project development for 2024. This RFP offers an opportunity for implementation partners to develop, launch, and implement regenerative agricultural projects under the Eco-Harvest program. The annual outcomes generated from these projects meet food and beverage supply chain commitments and continue to build out and scale ESMC/ESMRC programing to deliver national scale impacts across the agricultural and food and beverage sector supply chains.
Review the full RFP section on ESMC’s website
ESMC launched Eco-Harvest in May 2022 after more than three years of pilot testing and refinement with agricultural supply chain and value chain partners. Eco-Harvest is an innovative ecosystem services market program that pays farmers for beneficial environmental outcomes from regenerative agriculture. This program meets food and beverage sector annual Scope 3 reporting needs for quantified, verified soil carbon removals and reduced GHG emissions from agricultural production within their supply chains.

Recommendations for Modernizing Technical Assistance by CERES
The CERES Environmental and Climate Justice Working Group has drafted a letter calling for the USDA’s National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) to expand efforts to improve access to technical assistance that better supports successful farmer and rancher participation in NRCS conservation programs. Low conservation program participation success rates among disadvantaged and underserved producers are underscored as key issues to address. The letter serves the working groups’ broader core efforts to discuss the environmental justice and climate justice movements, the needs of impacted communities, frontline workers and their organizations, and their varied policy positions and approaches. See the CERES sign-on-letter.

Rice Gets Reimagined, From the Mississippi to the Mekong
New York Times (May 20)
Rice is in trouble as the Earth heats up, threatening the food and livelihood of billions of people. Sometimes there’s not enough rain when seedlings need water, or too much when the plants need to keep their heads above water. As the sea intrudes, salt ruins the crop. Cultivating Farmer Prosperity: Investing in Regenerative Agriculture
World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) (May 2023)
A new report by the WBCSD highlights how although the environmental benefits of regenerative agriculture are widely touted, the economics that support the transition and sustained operation of regenerative farming systems still cast doubt. This report brings forward the farmer perspective on transitioning to regenerative agriculture and explores economics through the lens of an “average” Kansas wheat farmer. It presents a methodology that can be translated and applied to other geographies and commodities. Read and download the full report.
